"The Orchid Breakfast" - I painted one flower at a time as they bloomed in my greenhouse off of the chicken coop on the farm. I would sit for breakfast with the blooming plant in front of me, hence the title. Starting with the center Cattleyas, I left it up to the flowers to dictate the composition, which evolved over a 3-year period.
"Self Portrait" 1987 - In this rendition, I fancied myself as a Hungarian cowboy. My sister starched the colonial shirt and the hat was borrowed from my dear friend, Diana Bixby, which is a 5th Avenue version of a coolie hat. It was just before I visited my cousins in Hungary.
2008 - Artsbridge Juried Show - Honorable Mention for my still life painting, "Fulper Pot with Orchids."
"Orchids in a Tiffany Bowl" - "Second Place" Artsbridge 16th Annual Juried Show, Lambertville, NJ to be displayed in the Scott Arboretum's collection at Swarthmore College. I painted this at home in my hallway for a focused north light, being 2' away from the window. I arranged these birghtly-colored flowers in an arabesque in front of a Japanese screen for a play on reflected light.
" Majolica Cherub with Fruit & Flowers" - I positioned this acutioned object precariously on a rock from the local creek last October with flowers and fruit I picked from around my studio - viz., Crab Apples, Morning Glory, Rose-of-Sharon, Bittersweet, and yes it's a "Knockout" Rose.
